When did you start training?
I have been lifting weights since I was 14 years old. I was given a bench for Christmas with some weights. Even before I had the bench, I would do push ups and sit ups every night before bed. When I was a kid, my uncles (on my dads side) would say, "let me see your guns," I thought he was comparing me to the last time he saw me so I would try to be better every year. These instances along with watching He-man, the Incredible Hulk, WWF or WWE, and collecting comics made me want to achieve their physical statue.

I started lifting at home until I outgrew my weights. I joined a gym shortly after and learned that there were other muscles besides my chest I could work out. Early on, I set weight lifting goals for myself. I wanted to row what I was able to bench press. I remember my goal once was that I would bench twice my body weight, squat three times my body weight, and curl my body weight. And yes, I've done them.

I always thought it would be cool to be a bodybuilder but never thought it was possible. Until one day I was approached by a trainer and he told me I should enter a show. So, I did. After quick success, I was hooked. That was in 2001, it's hard to believe that I've been bodybuilding for over 10 years. For me, bodybuilding is no longer a hobby. It is a lifestyle.

Some people ask me why I like to compete and I tell them it gives me a sense of achievement. I enjoy working out and transforming my body. I'm rewarded by seeing the changes from year to year.

What Workout Plan Worked Best For You?
Basically I try to hit each muscle group once a week in a way that allows for optimum rest. Knowing how certain muscles tie into others is essential for doing this. (For example I don't work tris and then try to work chest the next day). Also I stick to 12 sets per muscle group, 4 exercises, 3 sets, 12-15 reps always. I usually workout 6 days a week and never use the same split more then two weeks in a row to keep the muscles guessing.

What Supplements Have Given You The Greatest Gains?
Definitely protein, a good multivitamin.

Why Do You Love Bodybuilding?
Simple. I love to workout. I need to everyday. It's hard to take a day off, but I know I have to. I love to diet. When I eat clean I feel so good and the results only make the diet that much better. And finally the competitive part of bodybuilding has got to be the best part of all. I love to compete and this is my sport.I feel priveledged and blessed to be able to compete at such a high level in the sport I love.

What Are Your Future Bodybuilding Plans?
I just won the 2011 USA (Welter class). I am going to focus all my energy this year into getting ready for the NPC Nationals. I placed 5th last year and I want to improve on that. Also I would like to pick up a good sponsor. Eventually I would like to get on stage with the big boys in the IFBB and be the next little big man.Now that there is a 212 class in the IFBB I can see myself growing into a real threat someday with steady improvement. At least that is my goal!!

What One Tip Would You Give Other Bodybuilders?
Believe in yourself. If you see someone in the gym who looks good, don't be afraid to ask him what he is doing. Also stick to the basics. They worked for Arnold and they are working for me. Stay away from all those silly grips. Don't get discouraged! Bodybuilding is a sport that takes time and dedication. I've always said consistency is the key.
